Travel Tips

Doha Qatar travel guide is my personal experience of traveling to this tiny gulf country. When I first heard about Qatar Visa on Arrival for Pakistani passport, I instantly made a plan. Throughout this blog post, I will share with you how expensive is Doha in Qatar. And what you should expect in Doha. I visited Qatar two times, once in 2016 and then in 2019. Let me share both experiences with you. doha qatar travel guide

Qatar Visa on Arrival

Qatar has made its visa on arrival for all nationalities. If you have even have a stopover at Doha airport for more than 8 hours then you can also get visa on arrival free of charge. Requirements for this visa for Pakistani citizens are simply passport, onward ticket, polio card and hotel booking. You should also have a debit or credit card with you upon arrival. I was only asked hotel booking both the times I visited Qatar.

Doha Qatar Travel Guide: Which Time is Best?

This is very important to understand that Qatar is one of the hottest and warmest countries in the world. I went to Qatar first in November 2016 and second time in June 2019 (I will explain why I went in June). And both the times it was very hot in Doha. I could not go outside my hotel in Day time even in November. And second time when I visited in June, it was like a hell on earth.

So my clear advice here is, if you want to go for tourism then only go in December, January and February. Avoid rest of nine months which will screw you up if you go outside in day time. In June 2019, I could not even go outside at 11pm at night. The city did not cool down at night too. I went in June just because I was going to Malaysia for a family trip and we had a stopover for 24 hours in Doha, Qatar.

Best Flight Options for Qatar

Qatar Airways is the best option for flights to Qatar. This is because Qatar Airways is based in Doha and all of their flights will make a stopover in Doha. Qatar is not generally a tourism country. If you make a separate plan for Qatar then it would be expensive and not really worth it.

However, in case you are going to Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey or any other part of the world and you found a good deal with Qatar airways. Then it’s not a bad idea to have a day or two in Qatar. One to three days are more than enough to visit most of the attractions in Doha.

This way, you will visit Qatar almost free of cost. First, because visa on arrival is free of charge and you will find very budget accommodation in city center Doha. I did it myself two times and that’s why I am writing this guide for travelers like you.

Accommodation in Doha Qatar

When I visited Doha for the first time in 2016. I got a hotel room in Doha old city area and the hotel name was Dimand 2 hotel. I got that room for $40 USD per night. However, during my second visit in June 2019. I found that hotel prices have dropped. I found a hotel for $60 USD per night for my entire family. I checked options for solo traveler and $30 per night hotels were easily available on Agoda.com.

Transport & Food Options in Doha Qatar

Doha city is a small city which sometimes you can explore just by walking. However, they have recently started Doha Metro train which is very similar to Dubai metro train. I have personally used that metro train and I was impressed. It cost only 2 Qatari Riyal for a one way trip. That’s the best thing they have done to Doha. Taxis are also available everywhere and will cost $3 to $4 USD for a ride up to 5 KM. That’s what I experienced.

The next thing is food which is a mixture of middle east and South Asia. Pakistani and Indian Cuisine is easily available in Doha due to the fact that a lot of Desi expats live in this country for work purpose. I would go to small cafes in old Doha near my hotel and usually eat Chicken Tikkas and biryani. I did try some Arabic dishes too. The cost for food was $3 to $5 per meal in 2019 when I last time visited Qatar.

I love this thing…
The cheapest meal I ever had was this one for $1.

Top Tourist Attractions in Doha

Remember, Doha is not an authentic or cultural place. Doha is just like Dubai as far as real culture is concerned. Most of the people in Doha are foreign workers. There are many places you can visit in Doha. I will list the places which I visited during my two trips including some shopping malls and historical museums.

1) Souq Waqif in Doha

This is the only authentic place I found in Doha which has a traditional market. There are hundreds of shops selling different items. The narrow streets of this market will give you a real feeling of how Doha was in old times. There are many restaurants and cafes which serve different cuisines and shisha.

Souq Waqif is a traditional market in Doha

2) Qatar National Museum

This museum is recently built. It was just opened when I visited Qatar in June 2019. The entry ticket was 50 Qatari Riyal and this was an interesting place to visit the history and culture of Qatar. National Museum of Qatar is located on the main avenue near Souq Waqif.

3) Doha Corniche

Doha Corniche is a great place to hang around especially at evening time. You can take a small boat tour here for as little as 30 Qatar Riyals and also you will have a great view of Doha Skyline while sitting here. There is a long walking track (8 KM I guess) where you will see many local people with their families.

I enjoyed the Corniche Side a Lot.

4) West Bay Doha

This is the downtown of Doha where you will see most of the high rise towers and skyline. It’s a green area with big footpaths and clean atmosphere. If you are staying at old Doha then you can hire a taxi which will take you to West Bay in a few minutes. Sheraton Hotel is also located here which has a nice design.

And these two Chinese tourists….

5) Villagio Mall in Doha

This was the best modern place I found in Doha. This shopping mall is designed in a way that it looks a big theme park. You will see fake clouds over you and a artificially created canal. This shopping mall was a life savor for me in the month of June. You can’t visit any other place except shopping malls in summer months.

My travel guide to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is a personal experience and feeling about this beautiful country. Malaysia is one of the peaceful and friendly countries in Asia. I spent 12 amazing days in Kuala Lumpur. I want to share all of my experience with you through this simple travel guide.kuala-lumpur-travel-guide

Travel Guide to Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia Visa

In order to visit Malaysia, the first step for me was to get a tourist visa which is also called “Social Visa” in Malaysia. Using this visa you can stay in Malaysia for up to 60 days and this was a double entry visa.

I was in Karachi, Pakistan so I went to the consulate website and noted visa requirements from there which were the as follow:

  • A valid passport
  • Four passport size photographs
  • Application form (filled out)
  • Copy of CNIC
  • Bank statement of last 6 months balance of PKR 200,000
  • Bank account maintenance certificate
  • Flight Reservation
  • Hotel Booking

I noted down the above requirements with me and the next day I arranged these all within a few hours. After that I went to a near by travel agency who applied for Malaysian visa on my behalf.

They took only Rs5000 charges which included the visa fee (Rs4000) which they had to pay the Malaysian consulate. Visa was issued within 5 working days after I submitted my passport, and I got visa stamped on my passport.

Update 2020: The visa fee is now Rs12,000 for Malaysia sticker visa and they now have Malaysia evisa which you can apply online yourself and that’s $50 USD per applicant.

If you want to go to the consulate or embassy yourself then below is the link of Malaysia consulate in Karachi or you can contact a travel agency:

Arrival in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

I went straight to the immigration and came out of the terminal a few minutes later. The first thing I wanted to do is to exchange some currency or withdraw some from ATM. I would suggest to keep some USD in cash with you for this moment. ATMs might charge extra fees for withdrawal.

After exchanging currency ($1 USD = 4 MYR), I bought a sim card called “Digi“. The sim card comes with data package of your choice and will usually cost $10 USD for 20 GB data pack.

The next thing was to reach my hotel which was very far from the airport in Bukit Bintang . If I would use Taxi that would cost me a lot of money like 80 to 150 MYR (roughly $30). Therefore, I went to the ground floor and bought a bus ticket for 18 MYR ($4) to go to Bukit Bintang.

Where to Stay in Kuala Lumpur?

There is no second thought about where to stay in Kuala Lumpur. You guessed it right, the name of the area is Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. That’s where you should stay especially when this is your first time to Kuala Lumpur. It is a touristic place with all facilities and attractions near by.

From airport, it takes around 40 minutes to reach Bukit Bintang but that depends on traffic. Sometimes it takes more than one hour if traffic is jam.

Accommodation in Kaula Lumpur

The next important question comes into mind about accommodation. There are thousands of hotels/hostels and guest houses in Kuala Lumpur. You can find budget to high level properties in Bukit Bintang. I myself booked a nice hotel for $20 per day in Bukit Bintang.

If you are a couple then it should not cost you more than $30 for a budget hotel and $100 for a 4 star hotel with pool and double bed. I even stayed with family in a hotel which costs me only $35 per night in Bukit Bintang area. Please go to Agoda.com for booking a hotel.

Tourist Attractions in Kuala Lumpur

There are many things to do in Kuala Lumpur. They have cultural places, historical places and religous places. Visitors have many choices to get familiar with vibes of Kuala Lumpur. Modern shopping malls and food streets are on the rise in Kuala Lumpur.

1: Petronas Towers or Twin Towers

These towers are the national symbol of Kuala Lumpur. They are officially Petronas Towers but people also call them “Twin Towers”. Located in the center of the city, you can access them by taking the free bus from Bukit Bintang. The free bus has many lines such as green line, pink line and blue line. You you have to take green line to reach Twin towers. You can also go by train.

petronas-towers-kl2: KLCC & Suria Mall

KLCC stands for Kuala Lumpur City Central which means this is the center of the city. There is a very huge shopping mall and many other places surrounding KLCC. The Petronas Towers are also located in KLCC. Just outside the Suria Mall, you will find a beautiful dancing fountain. Do not miss that in the evening time.

3: KL Tower (Minara KL)

KL Tower is not doubt one of the most visited places in Kuala Lumpur. Subject to weather, it has an amazing observation deck at the top from where you can have the best panorama view of Kuala Lumpur city. It’s also called Menara Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

4: Batu Caves

I have visited Batu Caves three times and I want to visit it again. That’s the reason I will recommend Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur on your first attempt. This place is basically a religious Hindu temple with a big statue. But there is an open adventure calling you to come. The 170+ steps which goes towards up the hill is one of the best activities one can do in Kuala Lumpur. I love that.

Genthing Highlands is not exactly in Kuala Lumpur but this place can not be missed. I have been there twice and I loved it. It’s a Theme Park with a huge Casino and city on top of the mountain in Pahang state of Malaysia. It’s just one hour drive from Kuala Lumpur by car or bus. There is a cable car with spectacular views of the mountains. it’s all fun there.

Ideal Budget for Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur has covered all people. if you are a budget traveler like me then KL has covered you. If you are a businessman with thousands of dollars in hand, you are also covered. KL will never ask you to stop spending, but it’s all about your own pocket’s situation.

I would say from my personal experience that $50 a day is more than enough for Kuala Lumpur. I am talking about the budget travelers, they can have luxury in Kuala Lumpur for $50 a day. I have stayed in 4 star hotels for as little as $30 USD per night. That depends on when you book the hotel and where you book that. I personally use Agoda.com for booking in Kuala Lumpur.

UAE is a country where you can find people from 200 different countries and from different cultures and different languages, it’s an amazing country to visit. If you are planning to visit UAE in near future then I’ve a full guide for you giving real tips, in this post I’ll be sharing my personal experience about UAE and Dubai, and I visited UAE from Karachi, Pakistan. However, you might be visiting UAE from a different country or territory, but except the visa and tickets, the rest of the tips are still valid for you, so you can carry on reading this post. in this article, I’ll explain about Dubai visa, UAE air ticket, places to visit in UAE, Shopping malls, foods and living in a hotel or apartment room.

How to obtain UAE/Dubai visa in Pakistan?

In order to have a planned visit to UAE or Dubai, the first step is to take the visit visa which is the easiest thing to do in Pakistan, and I think UAE allows almost all countries’ citizens to obtain a visit visa without any hassle. I’ll suggest you to have your visa ready before confirming your return ticket. For obtaining UAE visa, you’ll only need your passport which should be valid for at least 6 months, you can visit the UAE embassy in Islamabad or consulate in Karachi. The visa is issued within 3 working days after submission of passport. If you want to save time and don’t want to visit embassy or consulate then simply go to a travel agency near your place, and ask them to do this for you, they’ll do it for you against a small fee, You’ll have to provide them 4 passport size photos with blue background and your passport valid for at least 6 months. The visa fee is around between Rs9000 to Rs15000 depending on the travel agency you are dealing with.

Get contact information and address from below official website:

If you are in Karachi and want to deal with a travel agency for visa then I’ll suggest you to go to NIPA Churangi and from NIPA move to Gulshan churangi but go by foot or if you are on bike or car then just go ahead and You’ll see “Roomi Travels” opposite “Hassan Motor Training School” which is the best agency I’ve dealt with so far, these guys are experts and have arranged many visas for me. They take very small fee, and the service is great, if you went there then give my reference (Abdul Wali) and they will be more cooperative with you.

How to buy return ticket on cheap price?

Now after you obtained a visa, the next step is to confirm your return ticket, because it is necessary in order to enter UAE, for saving a nice amount of money, I’ll suggest you to confirm your ticket at least 10 days before leaving your country, and the important thing here is the Airline using which you want to travel to Dubai or UAE. There are many airlines operating daily flights to UAE and some of them are listed below:

  • Emirates Airline
  • Etihad Airline
  • PIA
  • Fly Dubai
  • Shaheen Air
  • Air Blue

There are many other airlines as well, but the above are the cheapest in terms of visiting Dubai or UAE from Pakistan, because these airlines have direct flights to Dubai, so this is very easy to get a ticket at low price. Never try to confirm your ticket form Karachi to Dubai using the following airlines:

  • Sri Lankan Airline
  • Malaysian Airline
  • Thai Airways

The reason to not choose these airlines because they have a different route which is from Colombo to Kuala Lumpur and then China etc. If you want to have the cheapest ticket for Dubai then confirm your ticket with flydubai.com, this is the cheapest airline from Karachi to Dubai.

I traveled in the Emirates airline which is the best I think.

Approximately, the return ticket will cost you between Rs22,000 to Rs30,000 ($300) depending on the airline you choose and the date you buy the ticket. So after visa fee Rs12000, it will become Rs34000 ($340) (Minimum) in total for visa and tickets. Or it might be maximum Rs40,000 ($400) for both.

If you are dealing with a travel agency for confirming ticket then before going there, first check the ticket price on the website of that airline online, so you can have idea about the price before confirming it there, and give the travel agency different dates, so you can find a cheap ticket easily. Now after confirming your ticket you are ready to fly to Dubai. But please read the next paragraph about confirming your accommodation before arrival to Dubai.

How to find a cheap hotel or room in Dubai?

OK, so now you have return ticket and visa in your hands, the next step is to confirm the accommodation, this is very important in case of Dubai, because if you are visiting Dubai for the first time then You’ll get stuck in finding a hotel on a low budget, so you may loose extra money and may be exhausted upon arrival. If you have a friend or friends in Dubai or UAE and they want to receive you happily, then ask them seriously if they can give you accommodation, otherwise don’t rely on verbal promises, you might get into troubles. To avoid troubles, either confirm your accommodation with your friends, or confirm a room in a hotel before arriving in Dubai, I’ll strongly suggest you to book a room in a hotel for at least two days before arriving in Dubai, and you can do this very easily online using booking.com, this is the popular website for online hotel reservation, and the price is the same as guaranteed on their website. So in case you don’t have a friend in Dubai or your friends can bear you there then click the below link to find the cheapest hotels in Deira Dubai or Bur Dubai (Deira & Bur Dubai are two famous places to stay in Dubai), enter “Dubai” in below search box and select the dates for searching a hotel, and then on the next page select 1 or 2 star hotel, so you’ll find reasonable fare:

After clicking the above link, you’ll enter to Agoda website, select the dates on which you want to book the hotel room, I’ll suggest you to book the hotel in advance for your entire stay, I recommend staying in Deira area in Dubai, that’s near the airport and prices are low for hotel rooms.

After reaching your hotel, just take some rest and then come out to see the beauties of Dubai, Dubai is an amazing city in the world, full of shining and shopping malls. Night Life in Dubai or UAE

If you are fond of night life then you can find all the components in Dubai very easily, there are a lot of bars, disco clubs and dancing clubs in Dubai and especially in Deira area, You can find a lot of massage centers in Dubai which are cheaper in terms of prices. And after Dubai, Ajman is the city of clubs and bars, on the beach side there are dozens of Clubs and Bars in Ajman. But remember, all clubs and bars will open after 8pm, so don’t try to find something in day time.

Myself in Sharjah – UAE

Where to do shopping in Dubai?

As I mentioned, Dubai as a whole city is the shopping center, but if you are on a low budget then don’t try to do shopping in BIG malls such as Emirates Mall and Dubai mall, instead of that if you want to buy something then go to the small super-store or stores and buy whatever you want at cheap price, because the same thing will be two times more expensive in big malls.

Furthermore, UAE’s weather is very warm and the hottest in the middle of the year, so if you are a visitor from South Asia or Southeast Asia then visit Dubai between November to February, this is a very good season, and don’t visit Dubai between March to August, because this will burn you, but if you are from a Western Country or Russia then don’t worry, it’s best for you :).
