Thailand is one the revisited destinations for many solo travelers as well as couples. The big reason is; it has so many tourist attractions that one can’t explore in a single visit. Therefore, you have to pack your bags again and again to visit this beautiful country on earth.
It’s a fine place for solo travelers and couples, but let’s talk about a family visit to Thailand with 3 kids. I’ve been visiting Thailand for many years now, I arrived in 2014 for the first time and since then I’ve visited it four times.
However, my recent visit was with family including 3 kids. And I want to tell you the story from starting to end, so that you can have an idea what to do in Thailand when you are with family and kids and on budget as well 🙂
Air Tickets & Accommodation
To plan your next tour, you have to make pre-arrangements such as flight bookings and advance accommodation in order to avoid hurdles in the last hour. I always do my preparation before 2 to 3 weeks of the planned visit.
For booking flights to Thailand, I have been using Sri Lankan Airlines, but recently I also flied with Thai Airways which has daily direct flight from Karachi to Bangkok. However, this time for the family tour, I used Qatar Airways, and the service was awesome. I used Qatar Airways only to save a huge amount of money, otherwise I’d go for Thai Airways if I was traveling alone.
Accommodation is not expensive in Thailand. it cost between $20 to $30 for a very good budget hotel in most of the cities in Thailand such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai. I always book the hotel room in advance in order to avoid disturbance while arriving in town, and I suggest you the same. I use Agoda.com to book my hotels online, and I’ll again suggest you to use the same website as it gives you the cheapest and discounted rooms.
Destinations in Thailand for Family Tour
During my family tour, I visited Bangkok, Pattaya and Krabi. But if you ask me to suggest you the best places in Thailand for family then I’ll exclude Pattaya from the list and will suggest you only Bangkok & Krabi. For a week or two, these two cities (BKK & Krabi) are the best to explore with family.
The reason I’ll not suggest Pattaya because that’s a very rushy and clubbing place only. Krabi is however a great place for family and any type of traveler. And if you can arrange then add Phuket to your list.
In Krabi, there are many activities you can arrange for the family such as a boat tour to the famous Phi Phi Islands (see the video) and going to the Tiger Cave Temple as well as Ko Lanta Yai. All are located in the city of Krabi.
I stayed at Ao Nang in Krabi which is located on the beach. From there you can easily book any tour to near by Islands and other popular destinations such as Tiger Cave Temple.
in Pattaya, we went to the Tiger Zoo which is very famous for kids and family. in the Tiger Zoo, there are many shows for all ages such as Tiger Show, Elephant show and many other shows. You’ll also find many Animals and trees.
In Bangkok, we visited the Lumpini park, Siam Paragon Shopping Mall and Indra Square. Bangkok is truly a city for shopping. If you are with family then you can stay in Bangkok at Sukhumvit Soi 44, there are very nice hotels for family and the area is quite peaceful.
Good Hotels for Family
There are many luxury hotels in Bangkok as well as in other cities of Thailand. And you can find those on Agoda website. But I’ll share the hotel names which I used to stay with family in Thailand and these hotels are actually very cheap and on budget. You can find any better option on Agoda, but if you are looking for affordable and cheap options then here we go.
In Bangkok, for first two days I stayed at The Residence Rajtavee Hotel located on Petchaburi Road in Siam. This is a very nice location for family, as you can get easy access to the popular places like Lumpini Park, Siam Paragon and City Center. That hotel cost me $80 for two days (Sep 11, 2016 to Sep 13, 2016). In this price the hotel didn’t offer break fast.
On return from Krabi to Bangkok, I stayed in Little Corner Hotel located in Soi 44 on Sukhumvit road near Ekkmai BTS station. That location was again great and quite. But the problem here was the room size which was a bit smaller, and we were 2 adults and 3 kids. If you are 2 adults and 1 or two kids then it’d be OK. The room price was as little as $43 for two nights (Sep 19, 2016 to Sep 21, 2016).
in Krabi, we stayed at Ao Nang, and the first hotel was on the main road called Pranang Flora House Hotel. The hotel was on a convenient location with a nice balcony and road view. We were given a BIG room having 2 beds for $16 per day which is insanely cheaper. We stayed there for 2 days.
I booked another hotel on the beach road for our last 2 days stay in Krabi, and this hotel was simply awesome. $27 per day included a big room with 2 separate beds, Swimming pool and an awesome buffet breakfast for 3 people (isn’t it great?). The hotel is called Ao Nang Beach Resort and you can book it by clicking on the link.
In Pattaya, I stayed only for two days with family, and we booked a hotel on the beach road. This hotel was not too good, but had all the basic facilities including a breakfast for two people included in the room price. The WiFi was fast and rocking. Name of the hotel is The Beach Front Resort and price was $33 per night for the whole family.
