Easy Guide to Batu Caves Tour in Kuala Lumpur

Abdul Wali February 1, 2018 Leave a Comment 1217 Views

Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu (Stone River), which flows past the hill. It is the tenth limestone hill from Ampang. Batu Caves is also the name of a nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India.

How to get to Batu Caves?

the easiest and cheapest way to get to Batu Caves is by train. There is a train station just next to Batu Caves.  I did the tour from Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. I used an Uber Taxi due to shortage of time which cost me 18 Ringgits and on my way back to Kuala Lumpur, I used train which only cost 3 RM.

So the best option is train, you simply go to KL Sentral, and from there you’ll find train to Batu Caves. if you don’t find the train line to Batu Caves then simply ask the information desk and they’ll guide you accordingly. The return journey will cost you around 6 Malaysian Ringgits which is equal to less than $2 USD.

What you’ll see at Batu Caves?

There is a small market and shops when you enter the area, and you’ll also see the big statue in front of Batu Caves that’s in front of the hill. it’s very big that for a moment you’ll not believe it. take some photos there and then start the steps which are more than 200. these steps are going up to the actual caves, so you’ll have to take a bottle of water with you. it’ll take around 5 to 10 minutes to reach the top. there are monkeys as well.

On the top, you can see the Kuala Lumpur city, and also a beautiful view of the Batu Caves area. now, you’ll go inside the Caves, the first cave is very large, and there is a Hindu temple as well. then go further inside, and you should see more caves.

How much time is required for this tour?

I completed the tour in just two hours. but a perfect time for this tour will be four hours including the train journey. if you go by train, it’ll take 30 minutes one way, and then the area can be explored in 1 to 2 hours easily. good time for the tour will be either morning time or afternoon. 8AM to 12PM or 3PM to 7PM. that’s what I think is the best time.

Batu Caves is a must to see tourist attraction in Malaysia. therefore, I’ll suggest to give it a try if you are around Kuala Lumpur area. and it’s the easiest and cheapest tour available in Malaysia. the best way to do it is by doing it yourself. you don’t need to contact a tour agency for this simple tour. This guide is enough.

And don’t forget to watch my travel vlog on Batu Caves 🙂

If you have any questions then do post in the comments so I’ll be able to answer as I’ve done this tour two times in the past and I’m happy to assist free of charge. Happy Traveling 🙂
